This is a warning from history, the world must transition to renewable power sources such as wind, solar, hydroelectric and hydrothermal or risk another disaster like this
3 major floods (2 broken dams), wiped out that valley!! 1889, 1936, 1977..I woulda said fairwell and left it to mother nature..
Ultimate Friend Zoned.... Dude saves her life, drags her to safety and she didn't even marry him.
Detroit, Michigan here. "A babbling, confused, broken old man". Hmmm, l wonder who that reminds me of.🤣
I really really love how long it took to realize that every chemical company or for that matter almost every factory I've ever saw is built directly on a huge river or water way and the reasons are glaringly obvious !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was 7½ years old across the Snoquamie Vally from Mt. Si, when "all heck" broke loose in southwest Washington State. As I was too young to watch the news, the pictures and type within National Geography blew my mind. I still tear up with every mention of the eruption to this day...
_Way_ too much Philadelphia for my taste! Pennsylvania is a big state! The story of the Lancaster dairy farmers and the black kid from New York was actually interesting.
HUNGARY MENTIONED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what is with the USA and toxic underground fires lmao? there's a dump fire in Missouri with radioactive waste in it giving everyone cancer
There were large clearcut areas felled by loggers. If you got on top of the ridges you could see. Wilderness was at risk; the mountain simply was more comprehensive in destroying trees and habitat.
The media and the government lost that war not the soldiers
I have a container of ashes from the eruption my grandfather gave to me. Clear plastic vial so you can see it. I've never touched the ashes, they are sacred to me. A real treasure I inherited. Priceless to me
Its labeled may 18, 1981. He collected it right after the last eruption in 1981
Sic 1980 oops
And the lesson for that story is.... Fear media far more for they will destroy your honour
anyone else heard him saying english and someone in the background saying or spanish?
That russian expert was so stereotypical it's funny
Mike Moore and his wife - just what were they thinking. That child had ash on her face, she must have inhaled some. Setting those children up for lung problems in later life. What sheer idiocy!
Craziest thing I ever saw was this event. The sheer power to rip a mountain in half is beyond words 😲
. Crater Lake Oregon May 18th 1980 832am Awakened by the blast of the volcano 350 miles south of the erruption I was 20 yrs of age.
I remember watching these reports live on TV as it unfolded. It freaked me out. I was 15.
Imagine a one party system in which the monopoly government is STILL this terrified of its people.
Every man is GIGACHAD here
Robert just kept pissing me off this whole video. He acted in such a childish and careless manner and had no sympathy for any of the victims.
I like the sounds they used for the bacteria and fungi
I wish this segment hadn't been so insensitive to gay men and Haitians. The power of science is amazing. We've turned HIV/AIDS from a death sentence into a treatable chronic illness that has medicines that are so effective that patients can have their viral loads become so low that they're functionally undetectable.
I just remember this being such an exciting time, I was 6 but remember watching this live!
I live in the Western NY area, its saddening that the same career politicians are still running our country 45 years later!
There was at one time, a newsstation that actually reported the news, and that was ABC. As far as reactor #4 it was a disaster waiting to happen. From the graphite tips on the controll rods, to the procedures of shutting the core down.
…it means the core is open
And now all that $hit is in the food we eat and it's making us all sick and slowly killing us go figure 🤷🤦
I was 5 years old when this happened & vaguely remember seeing it on the news. Of course I didn't have a clue what any of it meant at that time. RIP to the fallen, brave citizens for standing up for their basic rights as human beings & the ones who made it out the other side. Thank you for standing up to corruption in the face of adversity.
Robert Rogers is the definition of "keep portland weird!"
rename it "Man's Hubris" before it goes off again lol
Lies lies all lies. If it doesn't effect them or their families then they don't get two shits
I lived in Yakima at the time, 100 miles from this volcano.
Can't imagine the mills like that wood much .
I remember back in 1982, KFC would give a small cup of ash from the blast, purchase requires of a meal, free ash. Fantastic sales ploy.
The Romanian people stopped to soon. If you see a uniform, IT ISNT OVER
Crazy how no one would heed scientists warnings. Little did they know what would happen. I live in NJ and we got ash mixed with rain about a week later
I want to fire the editor who thought adding the "3 beeps" to every transition was a good idea. WHY?!?
"We pay taxes." 😮
And so how will the vet prom again to go with all the young people whose lives were destroyed by the propaganda and this loyalty thing against what they call the communism of the world but yet now China is a communist nation and we're dealing with him in every way and now they're taking over the world
I am watching this again today on August 9th 1974, fifty years to the day that Nixon resigned.
The Soviet Union was brought in a trap by accepting to involve itself in Afghanistan. It stared it's downfall with it. For good it's called: A graveyard for empires.
44:00 She friend zoned him.

Love to know what has actually been gained by all these missions off the planet.... some moon rocks? Nothing they’ve done has helped anyone on Earth. Big f@cking deal.
this video is all over the place
The one news story in my son's baby book was Mt. St. Helens. As I watch the graphic and complete news of this eruption, I am moved beyond words.
His last word was very powerful as a Muslim
Has anyone noticed that UA-cam doesn't understand simple mathematics 1980 was 44 years ago not 9 years ago this just goes to show how absolutely stupid technology is
